Gone are the days where a Brian Clough could take over a modest Nottingham Forest outfit and turn them into double European champions. Even a managerial legend in the ilk of Sir Alex Ferguson would not be able to take over an outfit not currently competing for trophies, like Manchester United when he was appointed, and turn that club into one of the biggest in world football.
Sadly true but it’s hard to see how this evolution could have been stopped. The sport is so popular and with that comes the influx of money. With the money comes added competition. The only viable idea is the restructuring of the Champions League to remove the huge financial incentive of qualifying.
