All teams have played one game of the big double Gameweek and already some of the touted double players have delivered. The double Gameweek teams play again tonight and tomorrow, so lets take a look at how the Gameweek has unfolded.
Notable Fantasy Performances
Michu and Dyer
What an entrance for both Michu and Michael Laudrup! Swansea looked more direct than under Rodgers and tore QPR apart. Dyer also impressed and could be a value pick for the season. Michu’s price has already risen to £6.6 as he looks to be the first bandwagon of the season. If you held a medium priced midfielder for Gameweek 1 (as I did with Ramires) a punt on Michu or Dyer looks reasonable.
Petric and Duff
Fulham’s and Petric’s start was impressive, with the Croation notching two goals, an assist, and three bonus points in the 5 – 0 mauling of Norwich. He looks a decent punt at £6.0. He is 31 years old, experienced, and has a better than one in three scoring record from 2004 onwards for Basel, Dortmund, and Hamburger SV. He’s another for the watchlist.
Tevez looked fit, hungry, and a steal at £9.0. He is set for a price rise after his performance, considering Aguero’s injury. I’ve done the swap myself.
Laughing at my suggestion that Mata was the safer pick, Hazard got off to a flying start in the Premier League and provided both of Chelsea’s assists. He looked to take men on and was dangerous throughout. I still think Mata is the safer pick for the long run. But watch out for the planned break at some point during the opening weeks of the season.
Yet another one for the watchlist, although he should have been there considering his great end to last season. He excelled, both in Newcastle’s 4-4-2 before the break and their 4-3-3 after the break against Tottenham.
Defoe grabbed a striker’s goal and is a great pick as long as Tottenham don’t buy another striker. He got service from Sigurdsson, Lennon, and Van der Vaart, and has proven that he is a potent finisher.
Be warned that as soon as a striker is signed, he’ll get relegated to the bench. Latest news confirm that Adebayor has been signed by Tottenham which makes Defoe’s value plummet. Adebebayor is a valid option at £9.5.
Stole two bonus points alongside his clean sheet point for a total of eight for the Gameweek. A pick for a clean sheet in the Friday Foreplay, he’s excellent value at £4.5 while Sagna is injured.
The Belgian Afro was unstoppable against Manchester United. Deployed in the hole, Everton’s Tim Cahill role, he was dominant in the air and create all kinds of trouble for the United defence. He’s one for the watchlist if Moyes continues to deploy him in the “hole”.
Gameweek 1 Captain Picks
I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 1 I recommended Torres, Aguero, and Mata as the captain picks. Aguero looked good before his injury, but had to go off and will be out of action for a month. Torres scored nine points over two games with a goal against Reading. Mata was the wrong choice compared to Hazard but still got us five points.
Quality of captain picks:
- Good captain picks: 2/3
- Double digit captains: 0/3
