Musings from Gameweek 15
Ba and Defoe
Ba notched his ninth and tenth goals of the season against 10 men Wigan in a much needed win for Newcastle.
He has scored 10 of Newcastle’s 16 league goals and has 33 goals since joining the Premier League in February of 2011. Only Van Persie and Rooney better that achievement.
Ba is 3.5 cheaper than Rooney who himself is a bargain compared to 2.0 more expensive Van Persie.
However, he is the same price as Defoe, who is on his way to his best Premier League season.
Both are excellent value and well worth having, especially as value-picks in teams not featuring Van Persie.
Nice to Michu
He´s on four goals in his last four games and again looks like the season keeper he threatened to be in his first few games.
I welcomed the fair Spaniard to my Fantasy team this Gameweek.
Nice to Michu.
An old one. Sure. But what a Fantasy gem.
Speaking of Fantasy gems, Fellaini showed his strength and fallibility against Manchester City. After scoring from a Baines assist, he tugged Dzeko down in Everton’s box.
Both he and Michu have risen by over 1.0 in price since the start of the season but both are still good buys.
Act quick, if you are getting them in, as they are bound to rise in price yet again after this Gameweek’s performance.
Despite Ferguson dismissing questions about Rafael’s refusal to shake his hand, the fiery Scotsman is not known for his forgiving demeanor.
For owners of Rafael, however, the more worrying thing is Manchester United’s defensive fragility and Ferguson’s apparent lack of trust in Rafael.
His position must now be in risk, at least away from home against Manchester City. Now would be a good time to swap him out for other prospects.
With all eyes on Van Persie, the return of Rooney the Fantasy darling, was unexpected. But it shouldn’t have been surprising. He has similar shots and chances created to Van Persie in games when playing alongside the Dutchman and is bound to have his games.
Still, Van Persie delivered again. It must say something about how much we expect from him when we are disappointed with “only” one goal.
Next Gameweek is an excellent opportunity to see how Ferguson deployes his two stars away from home against another top team. My guess is that Rooney will drop deeper with Van Persie up top.
Gameweek 15 Captain Picks
I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double-digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 15 I recommended Van Persie, Suarez, and Cazorla as the captain picks. Van Persie scored yet again, but once again other picks were uninspiring.
Quality of captain picks:
- Good captain picks: 22/45
- Double digit captains: 6/45
