Musings from Gameweek 26
Enrique wins the defender battle
Enrique’s excellent home form continued. He now has two goals and four assists in his last six games at Anfield. His goal, assist, clean sheet, and maximum bonus points resulted in an excellent 18 point game and a 19 point Gameweek with the disappointing WBA game included.
The question before the Gameweek of whether to include Enrique or Johnson was answered with a 18 to 7 point return. Even though one could have argued that Enrique was the better choice there is obviously some luck involved as Johnson is an attacking right back who could have scored.
Nevertheless, Enrique is sure to pick up investment after next Gameweek’s blank so get him in early if you want him.
Suarez show his worth
With Laudrup resting Michu and several other Swansea starters it was time for Suarez to shine. He terrorized the Swansea defenders and he could well have returned more than his goal and two assists. However, a 15 point Gameweek is nothing to sneeze at and many a Fantasy manager will have come away from the double Gameweek happy because of the silky Uruguayan.
Sturridge benefits from Gerrard’s generosity
To the frustration of Gerrard’s Fantasy owners he allowed Sturridge to take the last spot kick, thus making it one out of three for the Gameweek. Personally, I’m grateful as Sturridge was my captain for the Gameweek.
That goal, in addition to an assist ensured that Sturridge has now returned a goal or an assist in every single league game he has played for Liverpool. Him and Suarez are quickly becoming a deadly duo and both warrant Fantasy attention.
For my money, I think Sturridge is an excellent choice and a chance to save money to use elsewhere while still having excellent Liverpool coverage.
Updated Captain picks
I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double-digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 26 I recommended Suarez, Gerrard, and Sturridge as captain picks. All came good in the romp against Swansea, with both Suarez and Sturridge getting double-digit Gameweeks.
Quality of captain picks:
- Good captain picks: 50/78
- Double digit captains: 21/78
