Musings from Gameweek 27
Bale keeps on delivering
It hardly seems fair for teams facing Tottenham, with Bale scoring such stupendous goals as the last one in Tottenham’s dramatic 2 – 3 away win against West Ham.
His two goals should garner him the three bonus points, which puts his last four scores at 8, 11, 15, and 12. That’s amazing.
Just get him in, whatever his price.
Time to find the late season gems
Last year it was Papiss Cissé, now it seems like Sissoko is the latest in line of excellent Pardew signings. His goal against Southampton brings his tally to three goals, two assists, and six bonus points in four games, for a ridiculous 8.75 points per game.
He’s starting to look mighty tempting and has already gone up 0.4, to 6.4. If you want him, get him in soon, before another inevitable price bump.
Best third striker
I don’t think it is a question anymore; Lambert is the best pick for you third striker. A goal and an assist against Newcastle brings him up to a total of 12 goals in the league and 8, 9, and 11 points in his last three games.
If you are holding Fletcher (guilty), Podolski, Dzeko, Giroud, or Crouch, you could do worse than invest in the trusty Southampton goal machine.
Get ready for the Wigan show
With perfect timing, Wigan begin their traditional late season run with a 0 – 3 thumping of Reading. Kone was the inspiration with two well taken goals, with help from Figueroa, Beausejour, and Di Santo.
Getting in a player or two for the run-in, with Kone and Maloney the current standouts, wouldn’t be a bad idea. However, be aware that Wigan miss out on Gameweek 29 so patience until Gameweek 30 is advised.
I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double-digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 27 I recommended Van Persie, Walcott, and Bale as captain picks. Van Persie scraped a four point game due to his early substitution, Walcott was a disappointment, and Bale delivered in style with a brace and a 90th minute game winner.
Quality of captain picks:
- Good captain picks: 52/81
- Double digit captains: 22/81
