Musings from Gameweek 29
Bale and Suarez deliver
The most captained players of the Gameweek, Suarez and Bale, duly delivered. Suarez’s goal, assist, and three bonus points outshone Bale’s two assists, but both will have made their owners happy in a rather painful Gameweek.
Although Vertonghen’s two goals made him highest Fantasy scorer of the Gameweek, Gerrard’s fourth goal in seven games, Downing’s second in two, and Enrique’s third assist in five were more relevant.
Liverpool’s assets are worth monitoring, and probably owning, for the remainder of the season, as Rodgers seems to have found a formula that works.
The Norwich defence
Three clean sheets in five is impressive, especially considering the other two games ere Everton and Manchester United. Norwich’s offensive problems are being outweighed by their defensive performances.
Consider picking up budget players in yellow, with goalkeeper Bunn (4.2) and centre back Turner (4.2) the cheapest links.
Townsend and Hoilett
The QPR wingers caused all kinds of problems for Sunderland. Even though Townsend grabbed the headlines with a goal and two assists, Hoilett picked up the ball in dangerous positions and attempted two shots.
Should Redknapp succeed in saving QPR, I expect Fantasy points for both wingers.
The strikers deliver
Lukaku and Benteke just keep on racking up the goals. With Remy delivering again, Fletcher finally scoring, and Cisse on target you could make a case for a different selection, admittedly on shaky grounds.
I just can’t look past Lukaku and Benteke and probably would go for Benteke as I am unsure of how Long coming back will impact on Lukaku’s minutes.
Newcastle on the up?
The aforementioned Cisse wasn’t the only Newcastle player to deliver Fantasy points. Cabaye kept up his impressive run with his fourth goal in seven games while Sissoko’s assist ensured that the 23 year old Frenchman has failed to deliver only once for Newcastle.
Both should be fine purchases for the last ten games of the season, with Sissoko looking to be the better choice.
I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double-digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 29 I recommended Suarez, Bale, and Sturridge as captain picks. Suarez and Bale delivered as expected while Sturridge had his first bad game for Liverpool
Quality of captain picks:
- Good captain picks: 55/87
- Double digit captains: 23/87
