Manchester United took the lead in the title race with a narrow win over Fulham at Old Trafford while Manchester City faltered at the Britannia stadium. In the United game Rooney scored the only goal through an Evans assist. In the City game Crouch scored the goal of the season and Yaya Toure equalized, leaving Manchester United with a three point lead.
In the battle for the Champions League spots, Arsenal again gained on Chelsea and Tottenham, who played out a 0 – 0 draw. Arsenal won comfortably at home, thanks to strikes from Walcott, Arteta, and Gibbs. Walcott and Arteta both stole three bonus points, and Song got two assists.
Liverpool’s slump continued with a 1 – 2 loss to Wigan, thanks to goals from Maloney and Caldwell. Moses grabbed another assist but had to leave the field early to a facial injury. Suarez grabbed Liverpool’s goal, through a Gerrard assist.
McClean saw his season go from good to better with a goal, assist, and two bonus points in Sunderland’s 3 – 1 win over QPR. Cisse was yet again QPR’s villain, going off after making a horrid tackle ten minutes into the second half.
Ben Arfa and P. Cisse saw off West Brom, assisting each others goals in Newcastle’s 1 – 3 win away from home. Everton dispatched Swansea in Wales, thanks to a Baines curler and a Jelavic goal.
Norwich heaped further misery over Wolves, by coming back from a goal down to win 2 – 1.
Wigan’s win saw them equal QPR’s point total while Bolton climbed out the drop zone thanks to a 2 – 1 over Blackburn.
Other notable performances:
- Sessegnon scored on his first game back from suspension.
- Holt scored two but was sent off for two rash tackles.
- Jarvis scored Wolves’, while Hoolahan assisted one of Holt’s goals.
- Wheater got a headed brace for Bolton ably assisted by Miyaichi and Petrov.
- G. Cahill got two bonus points in addition to the clean sheet for Chelsea.
Gameweek 30 Points Summary
From Gameweek 25 onwards, I’m documenting whether I’m passing the test with my captain picks. If a captain pick scores over three points in the Gameweek it is considered a success and I am also noting double digit Gameweek scores.
In the Friday Foreplay for Gameweek 30 I recommended Van Persie, Rooney, and Valencia as the captain picks.
Quality of captain picks from Gameweek 25 onwards:
- Good captain picks: 10/18
- Double digit captains: 4/18
Both Valencia and Van Persie should have scored or assisted, bot got unlucky. Everything pointed to picking Arsenal and United players but sometimes the football gods just don’t listen to our prayers.
At least I pointed to Walcott, Holt, Gerrard, and Sessegnon as big hitters and recommended a punt on Suarez for a goal and recommended a punt on Suarez for a goal.
