Toby Sprigings for Football 365:
His floundering at United is an entirely different kind of failure, for which he deserves almost no blame. Instead, blame it on the pubescent gulping of United’s summer transfer business, an immediate bulge of money developing at anything resembling a target. Radamel Falcao is a horrible piece of business for the club – but the executives bought him, and Van Gaal, like all new employees, is keen to show his employers he can look after their expensive assets.
I’m inclined to agree. Can’t imagine United playing as poorly as they have been playing “a formation that features one striker ahead of a trio of Di Maria-Rooney-Mata”. Hope he gets more gametime for the latter part of the season.
