On Wednesdays we take a whiff of the Fantasy League blogs, as well as other relevant Premier League articles. This week, we turn our attention to Gameweek 8 reviews, the clean sheet situation, player analysis, and the weekly whiffs.
Gameweek 8 reviews came rolling in after the weekend. I did one here at Fantasy Formation, PL Fantasy’s Chris Glover wrote his regular Lineup Lessons, Fantasy Gaffer posted a Weekend Recap, and Fantasy Premier League Transfers comments on the “rotational disappointment” of United and City players.
There were few Fantasy analysis pieces this week with the most interesting ones being Never Captain Nicky Butt’s analysis of the clean sheet situation and the Fantasy Football Scout’s review of the bonus points for Gameweek 8.
Check out Fantasy Premier League Transfer’s podcast, it’s well worth the listen.
Football News and Opinion
In an interesting article over at English Premier League Index, analysis of the Sunderland game statistics hints that Arsenal are a more direct team after the departure of Fabregas and Nasri. Thus, Arteta has to accept the responsibility of moving the ball around. This means he plays deeper and is less involved in attacking areas in the last third of the pitch. Fantasy wise, this decreases his value.
An English Premier League Index article also argues that Best of Newcastle is suffering a dip in form, having “failed to register a shot in two games now and failed to register a shot on target in three games, the last being his goal against Aston Villa“.
- DJ Campell is out for two months with fractured metatarsal.
…whiff of scandal: Patrice Evra accuses Luis Suárez of racist comments.
…whiff of Barton: Joey Barton criticizes Adel Taarabt publicly. Neil Warnock is not impressed.
…whiff of a miss: Boyata’s rather funny miss for Bolton at Wigan.
…whiff of genius: A brilliant bicycle kick from Fluminese’s Fred.
